Relay for Life Dunedin 2024
Apr 23, 2024
On Saturday, April 20, our amazing team of 21 staff members were up bright and early for the Cancer Society Otago & Southland Relay for Life charity fundraising event. Our team wore a mixture of bright colours along with our new Broadway Medical Centre team t-shirts.
The event was opened by Dunedin Ambassador for Relay for Life Tamsyn Hayes; a truly remarkable and brave woman who is currently undergoing cancer treatment. You can read more about Tamsyn and her story here: https://relayforlife.org.nz/dunedin-relay/posts/meet-tamsyn
Along with Tamsyn and her daughter opening, they were joined by those who had been affected by cancer, who wore purple sashes and those who have cared for someone with cancer wearing green sashes.
As the first laps of the relay got underway, it was a bit of a battle for space between walkers and runners, however, this evened out not too long after and everyone was able to keep to their own pace.
During the day we were provided with some great local entertainment from singers and groups as well as a group Zumba class! There were also some delicious local food trucks on site. The loaded fries from Te Waahi Taraka Kai, a local not-for-profit organisation were delicious!
The evening finished with a Candlelight Ceremony where there was a lap of remembrance for those who had lost their battle with cancer. This truly hit home about why we were all there. To help support those currently suffering and to raise money for cancer prevention.
While what we raised is only a small portion of what is needed in the community to provide these services, we are incredibly grateful to all our supporters, who to date have helped us raise over $3,500!
Donations can still be made until the end of May, and every little bit helps! If you can donate any amount, please click here: Broadway Medical Centre Relay For Life
Well done to our team! Collectively, we walked approximately 379,962 steps and 272.49 kilometres!
Thank you once again to all our supporters!
